No 27 - In 2022: Where is the best place in the world to be a doctor?

Two weeks ago I published this short article suggesting what I guestimated to be the best places in the world to be a doctor this year. I then shared this on Twitter and Facebook and was very pleased to see >1200 people reading the article and commenting on it. Firstly, thank you to you all for taking the time.

But, the results are in…. the following is the updated list based on the views of mostly UK based clinicians via the scientific method of a Twitter poll and Facebook comments. Drum roll please…

Top ranking work-life balance places for doctors (best at the top - meaning they got at least some positive comments):

1. Australia (Expensive + Long way from anyway V Best work-life balance and training)

2. New Zealand (Same as Aus but more expensive and further away)

3. Vancouver / Canada (Expensive but good quality of life, colder than Aus/NZ)

4. Texas / USA (Well played but work hard)

5. Sweden (Paid better than the UK and a nice place to live but its expensive)

6. Switzerland (See Sweden but more fondue less pickled herring)

Middle ranking areas (best at the top):

1. UAE / Qatar

2. Most of Western Europe

3. Italy

4. Scandinavia

5. The Caribbean and Bermuda

6. Tropical Islands

7. UK

8. Hong Kong

9. Taiwan

10. Singapore

11. Japan

12. Most of the Far east

13. South Africa

14. India/ Pakistan

15. South America

16. Central America

Bad work/life balance (worst at the top):

1. Ukraine

2. Russia

3. Most of Africa (Interesting medicine but stressful, decent standard of living for you but bit wealth gap and currently not that comparable to the West in most places)

4. Central Asia

5. The Middle East-ish with some exceptions

6. China

7. The south Pole

8. Bits of southern America
